Beta Mu Sigma
Beta Mu Sigma (ΒΜΣ), also known as Brotherhood of Medical Scholars or BMS, is a SEC-registered medical fraternity in the Philippines that was founded on December 17, 1987. Based at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, the fraternity is the first, largest, most awarded, and only all-male organization of the PLM College of Medicine. It stands through its four pillars namely: Brotherhood, Academic Excellence, Community Service, and Leadership.〔(Beta Mu Sigma ). Accessed February 15, 2009.〕
BMS collaborates with numerous urban and rural socio-civic and non-government organizations in the country, to include the Philippine National Red Cross, Ayala Foundation, Lion’s Club, Rotary Club, and the Remedios AIDS Foundation, among others.〔
==Awards and citations==
The Brotherhood of Medical Scholars is the most awarded organization in PLM College of Medicine. Awards garnered by BMS include the following, namely: One of the Ten Outstanding Organizations of Manila for the years 1990, 1991, 1992, and 1995; One of the Three Outstanding Youth Organizations of Metro Manila for the year 1992; Presidential Award for the Most Outstanding Academic Organization in PLM for the years 1990 and 1991; Tanging Banggit Award for Community Service in PLM for the years 1990 and 1991; and the Molave Award for Most Outstanding Academic Organization in PLM for the years 1991, 2002, 2004, and 2008. Likewise, BMS has received numerous certificates and plaques of merits from different organizations and companies after rendering assistance and co-organizing projects with them. Some of which are the Bronze, Silver, and Gold Merit Awards for Leadership and Community Service awarded by the Philippine National Red Cross—Manila Chapter in 2007, 2010 and 2012, respectively.〔
For the years 2009 to 2014, members of BMS claimed the Most Outstanding Intern Award in Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center: Dr. Rafael Montepio (2009), Dr. Percy Prieto (2010), Dr. Rainier Mozo (2011), Dr. Mark Velez (2012), Dr. Ralph Oreiro (2013), and Dr. Meynard Guanlao (2014). Also, the former Presidents of the Pamantasan Medical Graduates Association, Inc., Dr. Jeremias Balgua Jr. and Dr. John Arnel Amata, are both members of BMS.
